Grossenbacher Speaks Against Proposed Michigan Health Education Standards
Republican State House candidate John Grossenbacher appeared before the Michigan State Board of Education to oppose the proposed Health Education Standards, arguing they undermine parental rights and shift the focus of public education away from academics.
Grossenbacher emphasized that schools should focus on reading, mathematics, science, history, and preparing students for successful futures, while parents remain responsible for teaching values, morality, and family beliefs.
During his remarks, he criticized provisions within the proposed standards that addressed gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, arguing those topics extend beyond the proper role of K-12 public education.
He also expressed concern over the Board's handling of public comment, noting the lengthy procedural discussion that followed public testimony and the decision to involve law enforcement after a parent continued speaking beyond the allotted time.
Grossenbacher thanked the many parents, candidates, elected officials, and community advocates who attended the meeting to speak in defense of parental rights and greater transparency in Michigan education.
He stated that, if elected, he will work to strengthen parental rights protections, restore academic excellence, improve transparency, and ensure parents remain active partners in their children's education.
